Time Is On My Side

"... yes, it is ...." At least that's what Mick and Keith said.

And you know what, they're right. Their message (or at least this part of the lyrics) is biblical. It jives with what Jesus' brother, James, says to us in James 5:7-8 (Message), "Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master's Arrival. You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work. Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time."

James tells us to be patient. He tells us to be like farmers, patiently waiting for their crops to grow and mature, letting the rain (and the sun) do its necessary work as part of the growth process. It's the same for us in this life. We need to be patient and let God do His work in our lives, trying us, testing our faith, growing us, and maturing us spiritually. It's not always a fun or enjoyable process. The hot sun may scorch us, and the cold rain may almost drown us, but in the end it is a necessary process if we want to grow spiritually and become more like Christ.

When we wait patiently in life, and let God do His work in us, and not run ahead of Him or His plan for our lives, then we grow spiritually, and mature and progress in our faith walk. Then, time - God's time - definitely is on our side. Yes, it is.
