Thanksgiving
We celebrate Thanksgiving this week, and the greatest thing that we can ever be thankful for is found in Isaiah 53:5 (TNIV), "He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
U2 sings about the same theme in their song, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." The lyrics say, "You broke the bones and you loosed the chains, carried the cross of my shame."
It's easy for us to become so self-absorbed and so self-involved in ourselves, and our own needs, wants, and desires, and frequently we forget or under-appreciate all that God has given us. Focus on the words of Isaiah 53:5, and the price that Jesus Christ the Messiah paid for us, and it'll be hard to be un-thankful or under-thankful ever again.
